Initiating a Device-Side Update
YoucanforcetheEnablertoconnecttothemobiledeviceserver.Whenthemobiledevice
connectstotheserver,itdownloadsanyavailableupdates.Thisactioniscalledadevice-side
update.Youmustconfigureaserveraddress(thiscanbedonefromtheConnectiontab)
beforetheEnablerwillbeabletocontacttheserverwirelessly.
To connect to a server:
1 LaunchtheEnableronthemobiledevice.
2 TapFile > Connect.
Ifthereareupdatesavailable,themobiledevicedownloadsandinstallsthem.Theprogress
ofthedownload/installationdisplaysintheUpdatesviewoftheEnabler.
Sending a Message to the Avalanche Console
TheEnablerallowsyoutosendatextmessagetoauseratanyAvalancheConsole.The
messageappearsasanalertintheAlertstaboftheConsole.ApersonattheConsolecan
respondbymessageorinitiateachatsession.
To send a message to the Avalanche Console:
1 FromtheEnablerinterfaceonthedevice,tapFile > Send Alert Message.
2 Inthedialogboxthatappears,typethemessagetosendtotheConsoleandclickSend.The
messageislimitedto80characters.
ThemessageappearsasanalertintheAlertstab.ApersonattheConsolecanrespondby
sendingamessagebackorbyinitiatingachatsession.
Managing Wireless Network Settings from the Enabler
Iftheinitialconfigurationofthedeviceallowsit,thedeviceusercanmanagethewireless
networksettingsforthedevicefromtheEnablerinterface.ThisincludesIPaddress
assignment,DNSserveraddresses,andencryptionandauthentication.
IfanAvalanchenetworkprofileisappliedonthedevice,youcanviewthepropertiesofthe
networkprofile.(ThisincludesnetworkprofilesthatareappliedusingScantoConfig.)You
cannotmodifythepropertiesinanetworkprofile,butyoucanswitchtousingmanual
configurationandprovidenewsettings.
